What I miss (and don't miss) about Malaysia

bunga raya hibiscus

Here's a list, in no particular order, of what a Malaysian misses about Malaysia:

1) Free refill of green tea in all the Japanese restaurants
2) Water spouts in toilets
3) How people will go out of their way to help you if you ask nicely
4) Chilli sauce in all the fast food outlets - particularly the Thai Chilli Sauce in KFC outlets
5) Eating out or having a cuppa teh tarik at midnight
6) Good and affordable massages
7) Food, of every nation - and tribes too
8) Warm water in outdoor swimming pools any time of the year
9) Cheap cinema tickets
10) Constant water temperature from taps
11) The 'lah's - a beautiful, easy way to transform and soften any sentence - "Come here, lahhh"

And what I don't miss:

1) The aggresive traffic - I swear, I am becoming a wimp after a year plus here, driving among civilised drivers.
2) The service at retail and food outlets - sometimes non existent
3) Sitting in a jam as the car crawls 1 foot every 5 minutes (we experienced this twice in the 3 weeks we were there, and we generally avoided travel peak hours)
4) Cars double parked (for the uninitiated, this is where a car is parked illegally immediately behind another car which is parked in its box, rendering it impossible for the latter to come out without honking up a storm)
5) The insane work hours and the idea that work should permeate every corner of your life
6) The crime - in one restaurant we visited, a sign was prominently put up advising people not to leave notebooks in their cars and avoid placing their mobile phones on top of the dining tables

note : The hibiscus or 'bunga raya' is Malaysia's national flower
