Vegemite pasta

I know the title is bound to make a portion of the population go, "Ewwwww!"

When I stumbled upon Nigella's Marmite Spaghetti / Vegemite Spaghetti recipe, I went, "Ewwww...?" but then I was motivated to try it out of curiosity, because it sounded simple, and because I have a huge jar of Vegemite.

I didn't use spaghetti though. I used store-bought ravioli, and I think this worked better because the ravioli's filling adds texture and the water from the cooked ravioli is tastier too.

So I throw butter in a pan, once it bubble, add a ladle of the hot water from the pasta and mix in one teaspoon of Vegemite.

Not bad! Number One and Two liked it. To make it even tastier, I add a spoon of butter at the end and a dash of chicken stock powder. Nigella adds parmesan but cheese is not really our thing.

But it was lacking something - a bit of sweetness to go with the slightly salty, creamy texture. I added a spoonful of the chilli jam...

and slurped up the sauce at the end of the meal.

  4. Yup, see, a few months ago, I asked hubby to buy a jar of Marmite and he bought the Biggest Jar he could find. (ps: you can try and substitute honey for the chilli jam, reckon it'd taste close!)

  5. TNE, why you ask hubby for Marmite? Someone who knows Vegemite will not touch Marmite. Is that true?
