My Malaysian food weekend, continued...

This time, it was a bunch of Malaysians holding a potluck lunch. The spread was almost like the day before. There was nasi lemak, rendang, masak lemak cili padi, satay, assam laksa, pulut tai-tai (the blue/white glutinous rice with kaya) and bubur cha-cha. I brought pandan sponge cake and sago Gula Melaka.

The food was better than the day before. Here, I present a picture of the assam laksa as evidence.

She had slices of bunga kantan in it! I've been looking all over for herbs like bunga kantan and daun kesum because I was craving for kerabu, but they are nowhere in sight. I asked her where she got them and she said she drove all the way to Cabramatta (about 45 mins to an hour) away to get them just for this. Now why couldn't the professional chefs from Grace Hotel get them?

Food aside, I did say earlier that the point of food is the company to eat with, and we had a fabulous time. It's wonderful to be enveloped in the warmth of familiarity, of having strangers embrace you and experiencing Asian hospitality, where it's all about 'eat, eat, eat' and 'don't worry about that mess'. We were cackling at the top of our voices in the backyard, and I missed that too - making a lot of noise!

Although I've gained a few pounds over the weekend, it was for a good cause so I'm happy and grateful.
