Torture begins at home

A post for young moms :

If you have ever drowned in the depths of despair, felt completely drained and found yourself wanting to shout "I surrender!", it's because young children are experts at psychological torture. Here's proof :

1) Shaming and public humiliation is a method of torture, according to Wikipedia.
I've lost count of the number of times I've had to apologise to strangers in public.

2) Being subjected to interrogation for long periods is torture.
"When can I have the candy?" "Can we go to the pool today?" "Why does he have one and I don't?" "Why?" "Why not?"

3) Exposure to unpleasant sounds (extremely high volumes, dynamic range, low frequency, high pitched) over a long period of time, is torture.
Arguments between One and Two start off neutral then morph into angry, whiny tones, and finally descend into "I don't like this outcome" cries or 'Look what he did" yells. That is, if no one cries first.

4) Sleep deprivation is a method of torture, which has been linked to psychosis.
(On that note, this study says the sound most likely to wake a sleeping woman is the cry of a baby — whether or not she has children of her own. A crying baby is not even on the list of the 10 most sleep-disturbing sounds for men!)

5) Torture is often punctuated by repetition, a grinding down of will, a result of enduring the same fate again and again, and seeing no light at the end.

6) The best torturers have a complete lack of empathy.
Young children are very self-centred and have selective hearing. They seem deaf 99% of the time but this hearing disability vanishes when the word "ice cream" is inserted into a sentence.
